My name is Les. Roome and I am President of the Rotary Club of Felixstowe. Rotary is a very social thing; friendship, lunches, visits to other clubs and scatters. The social side is however a pleasant by-product of the real reason why we join Rotary. The real, the main, the primary reason why we join Rotary is to give something back to our local and global community, this is encapsulated in our moto “Service above Self”.
We raise money so that we can give it all away. We do this by organising fundraising activities such as the Santa and Rudolph sleigh (together with Save the Children) which tours the town in December, our International Night, our Charity Fun Run, our Charity Boxing Dinner and an Ipswich Gilbert and Sullivan Society Singers Concert. In this current Rotary year we expect to give away around £25,000 to local and global good causes.
A scatter is when a group from our club visit another club for two or three days. We have been to Carcassonne, Nene Valley, Salzwedel, Sandwich, Calais, Delft, Dublin, Arnhem, Krakow, the list goes on. We have recently hosted a return visit from Salzwedel, which included a day in London and a day at the Newmarket races.
Welcome to our website.
